Stephen Mercier: Guitarist and Songwriter
Currently, Steve is the guitarist for the amazing singer/songwriter Caitlin Caporale of NBC’s The Voice. Steve has had the honor of accompanying Caitlin as she headlines at venues in The Hudson Valley and beyond, including at Live at The Falcon, The Ritz Theatre, and The Electric Bowery in NYC. In addition, Steve has been songwriting popular original R&B music with Caitlin, whose EP titled "Canvas" has just been released! www.caitlincaporale.com
Steve started playing guitar while at Cumberland High School in Rhode Island. There he played lead guitar for Monastery Heights and The Other Side. His hard rock band Full Force won the Battle of the Bands while he was at Clark University. Then he moved to Los Angeles and worked with singer, songwriter, and producer Loren Harriet. Steve co-wrote a song titled “Be Strong” with Loren that appeared on Loren’s Round up The Usual Suspects CD. “Be Strong” included all-stars Lee Sklar, Mike Botts (Bread), Timothy B. Schmit (Eagles), and Nicolette Larson. Steve also played on Loren’s track “Power Around the World” with Verdine White (Earth, Wind & Fire). While in LA, Steve played concerts at venues such as The Roxy on the Sunset Strip. He performed at The Strand in Redondo Beach with Loren and world-class percussionist Daniel de los Reyes (Zac Brown Band).
While learning guitar, he would stack Hendrix albums and listen to them in his sleep. He hoped to develop his own sharp-edged and melodic style of soloing. Some influences are Stevie Ray Vaughn, Yngwie Malmsteen, Eddie Van Halen (all three of whom he had the privilege to meet), Robert Cray, Gary Moore, and Johnny Winter. His favorite bands include The Eagles and Led Zeppelin.
